Free business tools that respect your time and your data
These free business tools are built for owners, freelancers and side-hustlers who need a quick answer without signing up for anything. Each one runs entirely in your browser. What you type stays on your device, and nothing is sent to PilotLedger's servers.
Every tool page also includes a plain-English guide with the formulas behind the numbers and worked examples, so you understand the answer rather than just copying it.
Which tool do you need?
- Sending a bill to a client? The free invoice generator creates a professional PDF invoice with your logo, line items, tax and discount. Your draft is saved in your browser so you can finish it later.
- Setting a price? The markup calculator turns your cost and markup into a selling price, shows the gross margin that price earns, and converts margin to markup in either direction.
- Thinking about borrowing? The business loan calculator estimates repayments for monthly, biweekly or weekly schedules, shows the total interest and the effect of origination fees, and builds an amortization schedule.
- Starting something new? The business name generator combines your keyword with industry words and naming styles to give you dozens of ideas to shortlist.
How these tools fit into running your books
Each tool answers one question at one moment. Running a business means answering them every week: which invoices are still unpaid, whether your prices still cover rising costs, and whether the business can carry a loan payment.
That is the job of accounting software. PilotLedger is cloud-based, double-entry accounting for small businesses. You can send invoices and payment reminders, record bills and expenses, reconcile your bank accounts and run 11 financial reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow. The free plan covers 1 user, 10 invoices a month, unlimited customers, and you can see what the paid plans add on the pricing page.
Prefer spreadsheets?
If you would rather work in Excel or print a form, our free templates include invoice templates, estimate templates and a profit and loss statement template you can download and fill in.
Why we built free tools
Most small-business owners don't need a finance degree. They need a quick, correct number and a short explanation of what it means. Search results for these questions are full of calculators that ask for an email address before showing the answer, or that bury the result under ads. We wanted tools that load fast, show the math.
The tools are honest about their limits. The loan calculator gives estimates, not a lender's quote. The name generator suggests ideas, but you still need to check trademarks and domains yourself. The invoice generator makes a PDF, but it doesn't track whether the client paid.
New to accounting terms like gross margin, accounts receivable or amortization? The accounting glossary linked below explains them in plain English.
Frequently asked questions
Are these business tools really free?
Yes. All four tools are free to use with no sign-up, no trial and no limit on how often you use them. They run in your browser, so there is nothing for us to charge for. PilotLedger's accounting software has a free plan too, but you don't need it to use the tools.
Is my information stored or shared?
No. The tools run on your device, and nothing you type is sent to PilotLedger. The invoice generator saves your draft in your own browser's local storage so you can come back to it. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Do the tools work on a phone?
Yes. Every tool is designed to work on phones, tablets and desktops. For invoices with many line items, a larger screen makes the live preview easier to check before you download the PDF.
Will you add more free tools?
We plan to add more calculators over time, focused on everyday small-business money questions. If there is a tool you would find useful, email support@pilotledger.net and tell us what problem it should solve.
Can these tools replace accounting software?
Not for ongoing bookkeeping. They answer one-off questions. Accounting software keeps a running record of invoices, payments, bills and bank activity, and turns that into reports for tax time and lenders. PilotLedger's free plan is a good next step when you outgrow one-off tools.
