Our mission

Most small businesses don't need more software. They need one place where the numbers are right. Our mission is to give owners, freelancers and the bookkeepers who help them a ledger they can trust, so decisions about pricing, hiring and taxes rest on real figures rather than guesses.

That means building PilotLedger as double-entry accounting software from the ground up, not as an invoicing app with accounting added later. It also means writing every screen, help note and guide in plain language, because good bookkeeping shouldn't require a finance degree.

Why we built PilotLedger

We kept seeing the same story. A business starts with a spreadsheet or a simple invoicing tool. It works for a while. Then tax season arrives, or a bank asks for a balance sheet, and someone spends days rebuilding a year of records because the tool never kept a proper ledger.

The fix isn't complicated, it's just usually hidden behind jargon. Double-entry accounting has been the standard for centuries because it catches mistakes: every transaction has two sides, and the two sides must balance. We wanted software that applies that rule quietly in the background. When you send an invoice, PilotLedger records the receivable. When you record a bill, it records the payable. When you reconcile your bank, the cash balance in your books matches the statement.

So accounting should be correct by design. You get the benefits of double-entry without needing to say "debit" or "credit" unless you want to. And when your accountant logs in, they find a chart of accounts, a trial balance and a general ledger that make sense to them too.

Price mattered to us as well. Many small businesses pay for features they never open. PilotLedger has a Free plan for very small businesses, and paid plans priced for small teams rather than finance departments. How we talk about PilotLedger

The principles above shape the way we write about the product too. You won't find invented reviews, inflated customer counts or award badges on this site, because PilotLedger doesn't have public reviews yet and we'd rather earn them. You will find a clear list of what isn't available yet, and comparison pages that say where other tools are stronger.

Company facts

PilotLedger runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install. It covers sales (quotes, invoices, payments, credit notes and, from Starter, a customer portal), purchases (bills, vendor payments, expenses), inventory with automatic cost of goods sold, bank reconciliation (from Starter), multi-currency (from the Growth plan ($34.99/month)), and 11 financial reports.

What we're building next

PilotLedger is young and still growing. Customers regularly ask about automatic bank feeds, recurring invoices, online card payments on invoices and mobile apps. None of these are available today, and we won't put a date on any of them until they are ready. When something ships, it will appear on the features page and in our FAQ.
